DR MACGREGOR (4,250 words) Much of this story is narrated by letters between Dr McGregor and his doctor friend Vinny, and by newspaper articles. Some children are struck down by a mystery "bug" which leaves them white, quiet, prone to sleep, with a loss of appetite. At the same time Dr McGregor notices strange figures climbing over the boarded up old school next to his house. Is Dr MacGregor going mad? Or is there something far more serious than a winter's bug striking down the local children? Dr MacGregor has to make up his mind about what is going on - and then he has to decide what to do about it. © Sarah Thiel
